There may also be some changes in torch strength (in the snapshot), but I'm not sure if that's because of a bug or something.

We should get a thread up for changes that will be necessary server wide.

Only the first snapshot is out and most redstone contraptions will still work, however a lot of changes can be made to improve the designs of some of them. (mostly replacing the old BUD daylight detectors with actual daylight detectors)

Nether quartz is a big change though. It's a new nether ore that is pretty common in newly generated chunks, that is the problem though. Do we crop the nether like the overworld or do we just make people walk out pretty far to new chunks? Another very Blacraft problem, would this ore be an ore to store in collective storages?

It seemed to be about as common as iron (or maybe somewhere between iron and coal in abundance) and it appears in large clusters like coal does. With a fortune 3 pick, I got 26 or so out of a cluster of 8 or 10, which is pretty good.

For the cropping the nether, I'd be all for cropping it. Without a map of the nether, it's hard to know for sure whether a chunk is newly generated unless we go like 500+ blocks from spawntown portal.

As far as the rail system goes, it's going to be a major project to 'industrialize' our rail systems and our mines. The main passenger rail system will be the priority though.

Also, there are these new redstone blocks which can act as an alternative to redstone torches, but mainly it'll double as compact storage. We all know how much redstone public storage has and heck, I've got a large chest full of it myself.
