Plugin Changes for 1.5
« on: 2013 03 17, 20:14:52 »
Bla has "pluginphobia" and the state of Blacraft plugins has been pretty outdated, especially lately. So I've spent some time going over every plugin and updating everything.

Only LWC has been updated for 1.5, so everything here might change if I find certain plugins to not work. I'll take the temp server down tonight and try out some plugin stuff before making the server live. I'll update the below list with my findings.

Notable changes:

1. TNT can now destroy blocks
2. You can't (some bugs still) place hoppers near a protected chest
3. Endermen griefing should be resolved
4. CHdistantfarm unofficial update for potatoes and carrots
5. Death chests (more info below)

Problems:
1. Rolling minecarts broke. Storage minecarts no longer travel 30 blocks and keep chunks loaded.

Death Chests
Assuming that it works in 1.5, here is quick guide to the death chest plugin:
1. Make a chest.
2. Put a sign above the chest.
3. You must type "deathchest" on any line of the sign
4. Die

We're getting deathchests now? That doesn't seem very legit imo. :/

The only reason I want to add it is because of all the bugginess that happens during a new minecraft version. In 1.4 there was like a solid 2 months where daily people died to bugs, I don't want to deal with respawning all that stuff. It's totally optional, if people think it is unlegit, don't use it. Simple.

The deathchest would definetly be useful for those that have problems caving without dying much (and is useful when you have an inventory full of stuff and die in lava).

Also useful for fighting the enderdragon. Except that any potions the person had on won't be available to others, but that can be worked out.

Started looking around for some possible rollingminecarts replacement:

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/cartsgo/ Already mentioned this one, don't know about it updating to 1.5

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/minecartrevolution/ Not sure about the chunk loading feature, but looks like it could. It's also going through a recoding that they are almost done with and it's definetly active. Might be kind of complex though.

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bytecart/ Doesn't have what I was looking for, but it is an interesting plugin.

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/swissbook/ We definetly need a way to edit the books more easily.

Well I have tested all the plugins and results:

Rolling minecarts is completely broken, I'll look into smjjames' options that he posted above.
cmagnet doesn't work for trapped chests (yet, I'm assuming they'll add that functionality).
If you don't set a deathchest you'll get spammed with a "no room in death chest" error when you die.

Everything else should work perfectly fine. I tested on the temporary server and I won't reverted it back to vanilla, so if you want to try out something go ahead.

Just a minor option for deathchests (if we do use them), should I have it set so that it links with LWC? ie to make a death chest you'll either need to public lock it or private lock it. Without this feature on it is as easy as what I said in the original post.

Yeah a public deathchest would be reasonable, but what if you die and respawn in wherever you set the home bed, but the stuff ends up in the public chest which is in Spawntown. Or am I misunderstanding it a bit?

Alternatively, instead of (or in addition to) putting a chest that says ______ Deathchest, you can set it up to spawn a chest or a sign on death.

You are misunderstanding it. I can set up deathchests to require that a chest be registered to LWC before it can become a deathchest, or not.

But being able to fly and having infinite life is also using for all sorts of things. But it removes the challenge from the game. I think deathchests are a very bad idea to be honest. I don't remember what I said about it though. If we're going to use them, the items could go to some special storage that only admins could access, and people could request their items back if they lost them because of a bug. Idk.

Maybe if the deathchests are placed in a sufficiently annoying location, it will outweigh the reward. If we made some sort of lava parkour track people would have to go through every time kol. Then again they could also just dirt pillar I guess. Maybe an obsidian maze. And people could get banned for destroying blocks in the area or something. Idk. Discuss.

About cmagnet, I don't see why we would need that anymore now that there are hoppers?

So what you're suggesting at first is that if someone dies they can't get their stuff even if it normally wouldn't have expired yet, if it wasn't due to a bug? That's just being a dick.

For your suggestion that's slightly closer to vanilla Minecraft, how is there a reward at all for dying? You'll still lose the experience. Also, a maze would be too simple because there is a rule for mazes that gives you a 100% success rate. Anything that can be solvable is simply time-consuming since things in chests cannot despawn. I think vanilla Minecraft (other than when you die in lava, you should still be able to retrieve those) is best as you have a time limit to retrieve your items.

Still nice to have the option depending on the situation, but yes you're right, the hoppers make the cmagnet function obsolete.

Sounds like you're trying to make it pointless to even have that plugin and I've already thought of a few ways that it could be used as a shortcut (not that i would abuse it......) so I get your point. However, yqt also has a point with people dying due to bugs, so maybe we can just have it until people stop dying due to glitches?

It is possible for an admin to set up deathchests in a certain location and not allow someone else to move them. The idea behind it is that bukkit 1.5 is incredibly buggy (I already spawned underground yesterday) and this will simply solve the problem of having to respawn items everyday. I know you don't like the idea, but you also won't be the person who will have to respawn the items.

The reward of having deathchests. Not the "reward" of dying.

Let's try deathchest and decide if it should be removed later when we know how buggy it is then.

Alright, I am finalizing the plugin changes for 1.5.

DeathChests requires a permission plugin (PermissionsBukkit), so I set it up. LWC has its own permissions, so for now it is only used for Essentials and DeathChests. (operators have access to all commands still)

I'm sure I got all the commands which are useful in Essentials, if anyone has any complaint about a command not being here, tell me.
- afk command
- getpos command (of yourself not others)
- ignore command (maybe?)
- compass command
- book command? (bla?) it allows opening and resealing written books
- itemdb command
- list command
- motd command (viewing, not changing)
- msg command
- realname command
- suicide command
- whois command

I still can't get EssenialsChat fixed.  >:(

- ignore command (maybe?)
I think that if two people have so much trouble they need to use that command, they should probably tell us on here or something. I probably wouldn't enable the command.
- compass command
What does it do? I don't like the sound of it. It sounds like it would take away the function of maybe the compass item or give some advantage.
- book command? (bla?) it allows opening and resealing written books
Seems reasonable, but would you be able to edit only the books you signed yourself, or also other books?
- itemdb command
Itemwhat?
- list command
List what?
- suicide command
I don't think it's the most exciting command but I don't have a problem with it. I think it's more legit when people use the world for suiciding though, instead of just typing a command. That's not a creative or entertaining way to die.
- whois command
I think this one also lists coordinates like getpos - so if realname displays the true username (or whatever) only, maybe whois wouldn't be needed.

I still can't get EssenialsChat fixed.  >:(
I guess it'll get fixed sometime by the people who make it.

smjjames and I just tested it and the author has to be yourself. I also have permissions set up so the author can change the author and title of the book if they want.

The server is ready for the restoration of the normal map, excluding the loss of rollingminecarts.

- compass command
What does it do? I don't like the sound of it. It sounds like it would take away the function of maybe the compass item or give some advantage.

I tried it and all it does is tell you what your compass direction and bearing is. It's no more of an advantage than using F3

Also, the /suicide or /kill command (as it was before I think) is useful for when you get yourself stuck somewhere that you can't get yourself killed otherwise. Such as in the cowpit of the cowfarm.

/list just shows who is online. Would be more useful on a large server than a small one like ours.

/itemdb shows the item name (as it's called in the files), item ID, uses left if applicable, and a bunch of item short names of the item currently in your hand. There's already a shortcut that shows item info and durability, so it's probably not needed, or just restrict to op only.
