New Year 2013 on Blacraft
« on: 2012 12 28, 10:55:27 »
I read some people wanted a New Year thing on Blacraft. Seems ok with me. When can we get most people online?

http://time.is/UTC

If we do 00:00 UTC that'll be 23:00 for me. I suppose that could work but I'd have to go some time before 00:00. We could also do it at maybe 02:00 or 03:00 UTC if that works better, or maybe 23:30 UTC if we don't care about the time.
It should be night on Blacraft.
Did people want it in Spawntown? I think I read that. I can make a New Year place for fireworks.

So if people want to do it I encourage people to craft fireworks for that time.

Post if you want to join and when you can be online.

I'll record the event and upload it to YouTube later.

These are the locations I've considered if we want to do it in Spawntown. 1 and 3 would be elevated, relatively flat areas. 2 would be an artificial island.
I'm leaning towards 3, because I think Spawntown looks best from that angle.
The fireworks could be launched in the city. Idk if they work with redstone but we could also connect some launchers and pull them off at our midnight.

Yes 3. So do we wait at the center and have some super long redstone connected to it? Then Bla presses the button WHILE AT THE CENTER OF SPAWNTOWN and we get to see it right?
My Question: Where will we be standing?

I made this building for fireworks stuff, next to the town center. You can put fireworks in the donations chest for New Year if you want, the other New Year 2013 chest is locked and its contents will be used at the event.

People can stand where they want. Maybe we're distributed so 2-3 of us are on the platform by the wall launching fireworks and the rest are close to Spawntown's town center (with at least one at the pyrotechnics building, which is meant as a place for launching fireworks as well on the roof).

I'm thinking of building a launching thing on the water behind pyrotechnics with dispensers for fireworks. Someone could manage it as well.

The town center itself could play music. Maybe "13" when we launch?

The stronghold could also launch fireworks, and the central station bunker even has dispensers.

Also, what do people think of someone holding a new year speech from the small balcony at the top floor of the voting center?
If anyone wants to I think that'd be fun. Before or after launching the fireworks?
I can help you write it. But I'm not sure what its contents should be. About the past year of UBSR, progress, the next year and future? Or something completely un-political?
Then again I can see it being a bit boring to just read text lines appearing as a speech.

Bla, would you mind if I used a duplicated item (my wither skeleton skull) for a creeper face firework? It's that or I burn it or it goes into fighting the wither.

This is off by memory but I believe it is right.

7pm EST is 0Z.
8pm EDT (summer daylight savings) is 0Z.

Daylight saving time = summer time, so no.

Yqt1001 prefers 00:00 UTC. Z = UTC.

however wither skeleton skulls are infinite because wither skeletons are mobs and spawn continuously

That doesn't make it okay to just duplicate or spawn them. Many materials are infinite, cobblestone, wood, etc. That doesn't mean we can just /give blanoxium wood 9001 all the time. Then we're playing creative and not survival.

The wither skeleton skull was duplicated in a corrupted chunk. Fireworks being useless overall, it is a good alternative use for them.

But if it's useless then why are we using it? It's not useless, we use it for entertainment. No use is ever good for glitched items.

Battery 1 has 14 launchers activated once pr. a cycle of 4 repeaters with the longest ticks.

No fireworks is stored in them yet, I store fireworks for it in the locked New Year chest. I guess there may be around 60-80 fireworks in it.

Clarify "time" and "rate"?

Mudkipz, please read PMs in case you didn't notice.

Tomorrow, spots will be reserved for:
Blanoxium,
Yqt1001
Mudkipz

At the event. Also, I will probably reserve slots for Smjjames and Bong, you two also had fireworks and batteries to launch, correct?

Maybe stuffhappens, as I asked him if he wanted to join the event as well, and I think he said yes to that.

But tell me if you have batteries in Spawntown and you need a slot reserved and I didn't list you here.

The remaining slots will be open to whoever manages to get on. Sorry about the 8 slot limit.

The current plan, which may be changed, is:

Before 23:50 UTC: People get on, travel to southeastern Spawntown and prepare their batteries for launching with all the fireworks. It would be very cool if some of you could also keep some rockets in your inv and launch them manually around the town for some variation from just all the batteries.
Approx 23:50 UTC - Mudkipz speaks from Spawntown Voting Center. The rest of us gather on the roof of Spawntown Dining Hall to watch and hear the speech.
After: People get ready to launch their fireworks and batteries.
00:00 UTC - We launch all the firework batteries in Spawntown. Blanoxium records the event from the new, artificial hill by the wall corner between Fort Kolkhoz and the central gate. Mudkipz was going to manage battery 1 (which I made), correct?

Emergency plan: I will backup the world a bit before 23:50, and if my recording or game breaks or something at midnight, I can reload the backup so we can get the fireworks recorded properly.
Idk when it'll be uploaded to YouTube.

if i am to manage battery one then someone else would have to time and manage batteries three and four

my idea was for whoever launched battery 1 to also launch 2 at the same time, or whenever they wanted, and then i could time and manage 3 and 4.

also at a rate of 1 line per 5 seconds, which is already quite slow, my speech will only take 4 minutes, so i could probably start 6 minutes before 2400 and still have excess time?

I don't have a firework battery, but I do have some fireworks that I donated that could be launched individually. For those that are firing individual rockets, it's probably a good idea to have a variety, that way there isn't a bunch of the same color in a row coming from one location.

Ok, I need someone who will be responsible for:

Countdown, keeping an UTC clock showing seconds and announcing on Blacraft when there's x minutes left until midnight on Blacraft, and the last few seconds before. I was thinking Yqt maybe?

Walking around Spawntown and launching fireworks manually (those not managing batteries). I guess that's Smj and Bong.

Yqt could manage battery 1 and 2, Mudkipz 3 and 4. Ok?
Are there other batteries which need managers?

Also, I thought it would be cool if we met at Spawntown Central Station with people coming in from the different rail lines. Just an idea.

what
blacraft shud upgrade to the next level on multiplay because it is now an ever increasing membership of blacraft
But would anyone be willing to support that economically? And what if the activity drops to basically 0 or just 2-4 players occasionally after the vacation?

Walking (or rather running, to give more of an appearance of randomness) randomly around spawntown, I can certainly do that. I'll be trying to watch the fireworks at the same time as well though.

Can I see the speech or at least see the timing so that I know when to hurry up or when the finale hits (or maybe I'll just spam them when the finale hits).

The updated plan:
This is written in a book in a chest outside the town center.

Blacraft New Year 2013 Event Plan

All time used in the plan is UTC.
An UTC internet clock is easy to find using Google.

One site is:
http://time.is/UTC

23:00 - 23:30
People travel to Spawntown. We meet at Spawntown Central Station at 23:30.

23:30 - 23:50
People make their firework batteries ready for launching. Put fireworks in them.

Make sure you know what to do when we launch the fireworks.

When ready, gather on top of Spawntown Dining Hall outside Spawntown Town Center.

23:55 - 23:58
People are gathered on the roof of Spawntown Dining Hall, sitting on the benches.

Mudkipz holds the UBSR 2013 New Year speech from the balcony of Blacraft Voting Center.

Afterwards, people get ready for midnight.

00:00
New Year begins when Yqt1001 announces it, using his accurate UTC clock.

When he does, Bong immediately plays "13".

After approx 5 seconds, everyone launch their batteries.

After the batteries are launched, people are encouraged to run around southeastern Spawntown and fire some fireworks manually.

Bla records the midnight event from a hill near Fort Kolkhoz and Spawntown's wall.

No, the chest ouside the town center at the jukebox. I moved the jukebox and chest ouside the town center so you could hear the music on the recording hill.

If it's shorter than speech just pop it out or leave it (you should go up to see the speech as well). The fireworks music also only has to play once. But afterwards you can play other discs as well if you want.
