New Years 2016 - Auspikitan
Triathlon

This event was a not exclusively a horse race. It began with a horse sector that went around the Darvincia Horse Track and meandered through the farms north of Darvincia. The race then transitioned to a foot race down to Nether Island, Auspikitan. Competitors then had to craft a boat at the shoreline and maneuver between wool "checkpoints" throughout northern Auspikitan until they reached the finish line near the New Years event area.

Participants
- AeV
- Blanoxium
- l_l
- Tuto99
- Ventus

No official results were compiled for this race, as it was difficult for the race official (Kalassak) to monitor the participants and there were at least two incidents worthy of disqualification: Bong purportedly used a speed potion, and due to a misunderstanding Bla did not complete the lap around the Darvincia Horse Track before following the marked offroad section.

New Years 2017 - Darvincia
Darvincia Horse Track

Racing once again occurred in Darvincia - this time at the purpose-built track in the desert. Bla was the race official. The other seven users present participated in a three lap race.

Based on video evidence, it is likely that Tuto actually finished ahead of Ventus, however lag resulted in the appearance of Tuto's horse crossing the finish line behind Ventus. This is corroborated by Fiah who announced Tuto as the winner of the race shortly after the event ended.

Fiah also used a splash speed potion which also affected Kalassak's horse, resulting in the invalidation of their results.

New Years 2018 - Vrus
Bimoomigo Aahrut Raceway

Bimoomigo Aahrut Raceway is a horse track with a 12 turn purpose-built section and a temporary "street course" that runs through the city of Vrus and adjacent areas used for the New Years festivities. For the 2018 New Years, the full 21 turn combined purpose-built & street course layout was utilized. Due to the high attendance of the Vrus New Years and the limited availability of horses, the race was run with two qualifying heats and a final heat. The qualifying heats were to be two laps long, with five or six competitors each. The top three finishers from both heats would qualify to a final heat, which would be 3 laps long. The horses were selected based on the similarity of their speeds for fairness, making this the first racing event for which this was done. The races were jointly officiated by Kalassak and Bla, who both also participated in the races.

The second heat also had two laps. The top 3 finishers qualified to the final. The race occurred without much incident, however Ventus took the wrong path between turns 17 and 18, extending the track. However, he was still extremely competitive, finishing only a few seconds behind heat winner Yqt1001.

New Years 2019 - Alteus
Alteus Square

The track in Alteus was a hastily-built square track with jumps on one straight and a slalom section on another. Like the New Years 2018 race, this one consisted of two qualifying heats and a final. Unfortunately, when I compiled these results I was unable to find the qualifying results, so only the final results are available here.

Tugagon won his first race this year.

New Years 2020 - Leikigo
Okaloi Raceway

Okaloi Raceway is a purpose-built track, designed with spectating in mind and taking into account the various shortcomings of previous New Years tracks. This year, the horses from the Vrus and Alteus New Years events were transported to Leikigo to create what is known as the New Years Racing Herd, a group of eight horses with similar speeds specifically for the purpose of horse racing on Blacraft. They were named in a contest where members could contribute and then vote on permanent names to be used for the race horses. Yqt1001 contributed the necessary nametags and therefore was allowed to name a horse whatever he wanted. The winners of the naming contest were Dinnerbone, Crippling Anxiety, Yqt1001, No Strats Just Skill, 2020 Vision, and Horsey McHorseface. Yqt chose to name a horse The Hero of Central Blacraft. Due to the addition of an eighth, unplanned horse, another name—Grayson—was chosen by Yqt. Dinnerbone, Yqt1001, No Stats Just Skill, Horsey McHorseface, and Grayson had participated in past races (Vrus, Alteus, or both). Crippling Anxiety, 2020 Vision, and The Hero of Central Blacraft were new horses added to the Herd and had their debut here in Leikigo.

Like the previous two races, this year's race was planned to be run with two qualifying heats and a final heat. Since the Okaloi Raceway is pretty short, the qualifying heats were to consist of six competitors racing for three laps, with four competitors qualifying to the final from each heat. The final heat was planned to be five laps long. The races were primarily officiated by Kalassak, however Tuto and Ganxi did the countdown and released the starting gate.

The first heat ran without incident, however after the second heat it was noted that one horse which had not run at any previous New Years events, The Hero of Central Blacraft, was much faster than the rest of the field, despite speed testing prior to the event. It was decided that the horse would be removed from competition in the final, reducing the field from eight to seven. This meant that the 4th place qualifiers would need to face off in a Head to Head to decide the seventh finalist.

After the incredible performance by The Hero of Central Blacraft, the new horse was disallowed from participating in the final, resulting in the creation of a two lap Head to Head event between susxy and Tugagon.

The Head to Head race was extremely close. With Tugagon in the lead on the uphill straight before the final corner, No Strats Just Skill reared, allowing susxy to pass. However the crowd got another shock as Horsey McHorseface reared shortly thereafer, returning Tugagon to the lead on the front straight, resulting in his win and qualification to the final.

Despite the 5 lap long race, the field in the final all finished very close. On the final lap, much like the drama in the Head to Head, just before the final turn Crippling Anxiety reared while Tuto was the leader of the race, resulting in him dropping to fourth in a photo-finish across the line less than a head in front of Yqt1001. Positions beyond the top 3 were not originally able to be tallied at the time of the finish. Review of footage recorded by Bla allowed for the completion of the results tally.

After the completion of the race, a ceremony was held to present the winners of the heats and the top 3 finishers in the final with trophy banners. The banners were a vertical rendition of the Dotrugan flag, with a green and red border superimposed for the heat winner trophies or a bronze, silver, or gold flower superimposed on the flag for the podium finishers of the final.

New Years 2022 - Lumaea

The Lumaean Grand Prix was built on the mushroom biome in southern Lumaea. It features a technical section with very tight corners in the first sector of the track before opening up to longer straights and more sweeping turns. With 11 registered participants, the two heat system was used again this year. Each heat was three laps long, with four (?) qualifiers from each heat moving on to compete in a five lap final. The New Years Racing Herd was composed of the same horses as the previous year.

Darvince won his first horse race in Lumaea. This was Grayson's second win, after being beaten out by Yqt1001 in Nova Chrysalia.

There is some uncertainty with the results from fourth to sixth place. There are question marks next to my notes, and an arrow pointing from "? 5 nar" to "6 Tuto", so I swapped those places around in the official results. Since this post was written up a year after the race, I can't be entirely certain what that was supposed to indicate. Without any video evidence, the above results are my best interpretation of the final result. Fortunately, we can be confident in the accuracy of the first three spots, who were awarded trophies for their accomplishments.

New Years 2023 - Laplaya
Orange & Orange Speedway

Orange & Orange Speedway is a purpose-built race track on the northern coast of Laplaya with a unique underwater section that traverses the ocean floor before returning to land in a more typical overland section winding quickly through a hilly prairie. It was the first track for which a significant portion was built by a user other than Kalassak. While she still designed the track layout, AeV assisted with the construction of the underwater portion, providing the materials and manpower to complete the section which comprises roughly half of the length of the track. The track was built quickly in the few days running up to BCNY 2023, and as a result does not feature a proper viewing area or many off-track details typical to tracks in recent years.

The 2023 Laplayan Grand Prix used the standard format of two qualifying heats and a final heat, with each heat race being three laps long followed by a five lap long final. Each heat consisted of five competitors, with the top three qualifying to the final, as only 10 competitors participated in this year's event. The same horses from the 2022 New Years Racing Herd were used again this year.

The races were primarily officiated by Kalassak, however Tuto helped with the countdown and release of the starting gate. Additionally, Blotz provided an extremely helpful view at the finish line to determine the winner of the final race.

The first heat ran without major incident, though yuunishinoya suffered from Australian Internet Syndrome and retired from the race. Kalassak finished 4th after Crippling Anxiety reared late on lap 2, allowing Nova Crystallis to pass into 3rd place, marking the first time that Kalassak did not qualify to a final race.

After the first heat, some competitors bred a new gray horse from the Racing Herd and named it Pisting Geladeira. The new horse was disallowed from participating in any race, as it had not been registered prior to the start of the Laplayan Grand Prix. The horse, in actuality, was too slow to compete, but was ridden by Darvince anyway, resulting in his disqualification. Yuunishinoya also participated in the race after competing in the first heat, but was not an officially tallied competitor for the second heat.

For much of the race, the battle at the front of the pack between Yqt1001 and TheMooCows was tight, within one or two horse-lengths. It culminated in a photo-finish at the line that was too close to call in real time. l_l provided a picture of the finish which allowed TheMooCows to be declared the winner by inches. Fifth and sixth place were not able to be ascertained as they finished in a close race as well, but no imagery or footage was available to determine the proper ranking. Yuunishinoya was allowed another attempt as a result of the heat 1 incident and a good, unofficial performance in heat 2, and was able to finish in fourth.

The typical post-race ceremony was not able to be held to present the winners of the heats and the top 3 finishers with trophy banners due to a delay in their production. Accolades were notated on the results board of the "podium" area and trophies were delivered several days after the race's completion.

With Grayson winning three out of the last four races, some concerns about disparities in horse speed were raised, with some people suggesting that he be retired. This launched an investigation into more accurately determining the horse speeds. After tests were conducted, Grayson was found to not be the fastest horse of the Herd. Regardless, efforts to create a more equal field for future races are underway. The speed tolerance expected to be valid for the next New Years Race is likely to be within 0.10 m/s or less.
