Yqt and Mudkipz think the fights in the current Battleground are too regulated. Are you interested in us making a second battleground zone (with another name) that has fewer rules and possibly other features?
If so, we can make one. However, I find the current Battleground to be enough of a burden to keep updated with the maps and fights, so I don't really want to manage a second one, as in making maps and videos for it. Since Yqt and Mudkipz are more interested in it than me, it'd be ideal if either of you would manage that with upholding rules, making maps, videos or whatever you want for it.
Vote yes if you are interested.

I'd have plenty of time to manage the battleground - and I actually would love to. One thing I think we should consider is finding a place in the world with lots of biomes near each other for variation (or perhaps instead a single biome).
Actually, we should use the entire southern third of the mesa as a battleground. That'd be pretty amazing.

A possible mode that I'm open to would be more of a RP mode:
For example:
Like this:
Mines
Players with mines in their territory may upgrade swords (from stone to iron, iron to diamond, etc). This would need a bit of balancing to keep people from becoming OP.
etc.

or how about like walls in hypixel?
aka develop for x minutes and stuff
-
i don't think they're too regulated. it's nice right now
an anarchy zone would be cool though
-
Ok, Fiah proposed a concept on the Ubox forums, I suggest we keep the discussion here. His post:
concept for a mesaground (half completed)

So a battleground in the mesas? Hm
Personally, I don't like the idea of turning an already rare biome into a place where you destroy the terrain. However, it might make some sense to turn exactly such an area into a place where you fight for terrain, because the terrain has value. Even though stained clay is already common enough that you can't really call it rare I guess.
However, I think it might be better to only battle for a smaller part of that mesa subcontinent, like maybe zone 1-37.
Also, remember how many times we've had to delay battles for the BG because people took long to get there. :P It might be a bigger issue there. Although since a second BG might be more of an "elite place" without ristrictions, the regular players may be more inclined to go there while less regular players might prefer the current BG, so they might know the nether infrastructure and how to get there fast better.

An anarchy battle zone? Do you mean just one region where you're allowed to kill each other inside it and build stuff however you want?
I like the idea, and added it as an option to the poll, and reset the votes. If people show interest, we can add another region for this.
I think a region like this should be far away from spawn, so people don't venture into it accidentally. It could be called something like "The Wilderness".

i agree that it's a bad idea to turn such a rare location into a battleground. unless the terrain there is somehow unique and radically changes battles, it doesn't accomplish anything except ruining the terrain.
i don't agree it makes sense that we fight over terrain that has value because that means battling becomes less of an optional part of gameplay and more necessary if people want clay. of course there is plenty of clay so this isn't as big of a problem (but don't disregard it either), but a similar battleground on the ice spikes would be an awful idea.
-
but the mesa is huge, not like we're going to mine all of it
-
Good points Kip. I agree. Overall I don't think it's a big problem with the scarsity of stained clay, but I think it might also be better to put the alternative battleground in another area, that's also more accessible.
Some alternative ideas for areas could be these, which have relatively varied terrain, mountains, forests and plains.

how about a 2 chunk wide strip along the chunk borders :P
-
The Mesa biome is gigantic. We haven't even mined out a decent chunk of it and it has been around for months. I don't think we're going to mine it all and we might as well use it but w/e.
I was also thinking of the first pic because it's close to revolutea it has some varied climate.
-
second one: very near bongatar nice
-
I hope people will judge from whether they think the area would be a good place for battles, and not from whether it's very close to their own regions. Getting there by nether wouldn't take long in any case.
-
Of all the new biomes, I think roofed forest would be the best one/most unique for battles.
If people want a jungle & taiga hybrid, I'd be willing to give up some UYP land for it, though there'd have to be a no nether portal rule since I'm very obsessive about portals near me. :P
Personally I'd prefer a roofed forest and extreme hills hybrid, something like this:

As for how the new bg works, remove flags, remove most zones: either make it anarchy, make zones really big or make some zones where you can build and conquer things but most of the space is unclaimed. I'd like it if battles weren't as planned, allowing for sorts of sneak attacks/guerrilla warfare. Just ideas I have :P
-
I think roofed forest would quickly be burnt down to crisp, I think it only helps the attackers sneaking up, leaving the defenders no interest in preserving it, if we still had flags at least.
As for battle planning and anarchy, I think that's going to be harder, because we aren't that many on the server, so usually there'd just be one person on who could run around taking over whatever the others might've made.
But in the end it's up to the rest of you to decide how a second battleground should be, so those are just my ideas.

no nether portal = nope

i've got this idea to satisfy both short-term and long-term pvp games:
each territory consists of a flag, and a hard task (explained later). when two teams declare war on each other, they can set up traditional capture the flag battles. the team that wins has occupied the zone. an occupied zone is in a state of anarchy and free pvp combat. if the occupying team solves the hard task before the occupied team successfully wins a liberating capture the flag battle, the occupying team now owns the zone.
i'm still coming up with possible hard tasks, here are a few:
guessing the password to a locked chest: too easy to automate and boring
have each fortress in a zone be built out of team-colored clay, and the task is to eradicate all traces of the color: too fast?
rename all items in a chest to the team's name: too boring again
-
each team has a monument and you must tear down said monument and replace it with your own. Make the monuments out of obisidan.
-
and you have to mine it with your hand

Wouldn't that just make it harder? It'd take battles and fights even longer.
